The clock tower on the San Francisco Ferry Building has been welcoming passengers to San Francisco since 1898. Previous the the building of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, the Ferry Building was much more important to the city's transportation infrastructure. In the panorama, you can also see the Embarcadero Center and Justin Herman Plaza featuring the fountain designed by Armand Vaillancourt and installed in 1971. The Embarcadero used to be a double-decker freeway that blocked the view of the Ferry Building from Market Street. The Ferry Building is currently undergoing a renaissance with a farmer's market on Tuesdays and Saturdays as well as many boutique shops and restaurants open every day.
